The Most Effective Way To Unlock Your Gift Of Authority

The enemy loves to confuse, distract, and block us from the path God has set before us. I find that those with the gift of the spirit of decreeing and declaring often fall into spiritual warfare as they learn to stand up and use their voice, their anointing of decreeing and declaring.

It’s when we step into a season of breakthrough through this gift from God that the spiritual warfare intensifies, and the attacks feel more intense than ever. You might find yourself facing setbacks, confusion, and a sense of being lost in the chaos, but I want you to hear me when I say: this is not the end. It’s just the beginning.

When God calls you to something greater, the enemy will come in like a flood. But let me remind you, sister/brother, that you are not fighting this battle in your own strength. It is through God’s might, His Word, and His power that you will be victorious. Right now, God is positioning you to break free from the lies, distractions, and deception that have been holding you back and stepping into your spiritual gift of decreeing and declaring.

So today, I want to walk you through exactly how you can unlock your gift of authority through the power of Jesus Christ. We will start in Isaiah…

Isaiah 59:19 (NLT)
“When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

If you feel like you're in "the void" that place of waiting, uncertainty, or even isolation… remember that it’s often in the void that God does His greatest work. It’s here that He prepares you, strengthens you, and reveals to you the depths of your identity in Him. But you must trust Him.

Trusting God = Peace in the Storm

Trusting God during this season might feel like the hardest thing you’ve done, but it’s also the most powerful. His peace is not just for the good days. It’s for the storm. It’s when you let go of trying to control everything, step out of the fear, and lean into His presence that the peace you’re longing for will fill the void.

When you find yourself in the void, declare and decree this promise over yourself:

John 14:27 (NLT)
“I am leaving you with a gift, peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

The storm may rage, but when you trust in the God who holds the storm in His hands, your peace will be unshakable. Peace doesn’t come from the absence of struggle; it comes from the presence of God in the midst of it.

There is power in your voice. Too often, we forget the authority we have when we speak God’s Word over our lives. The enemy wants to keep you silent, but I’m here to remind you to open your mouth.

Declare God’s promises.
Declare His truth.

Speak His Word over every lie, every distraction, and every attack the enemy has launched against you.

If you are doubting yourself, remember:

Matthew 18:18 (NLT)
“I tell you the truth, whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

I encourage you, if you are just learning this gift of the Spirit or looking to deepen it, to write out your declarations first. Write out your own letter to God as if it were a court document, bringing your request before His throne room. Bring your concerns, desires, EVERYTHING before Him and back it up with His Word. This might look something like this:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Father,

I ask that this letter be seen, heard, and witnessed by every angel, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and Yourself in the throne room of Heaven. If even Satan can bring his accusations and complaints before You, how much more worthy am I to lift this letter up to You, declaring Your truth and promises over my life?

Zechariah 3:1-2 (NLT):
"Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua. And the Lord said to Satan, ‘I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you. This man is like a burning stick that has been snatched from the fire.’”

Father, just as You rejected Satan’s accusations against Your servant Jeshua, I trust that You also reject any accusations or lies the enemy tries to place on me. I stand firmly in the knowledge that I am chosen by You, covered by Your grace, and protected by Your mighty hand. You have not only saved me from the fire but also anointed me for greater purposes.

With a humble and grateful heart, I bring my request to You today, asking for [insert your personal prayer or request here].

I trust that You will answer in Your perfect timing and according to Your will. I support this request with Your Word:

[Insert Bible verses that support your request.]

I am so thankful for Your love, Your presence in my life, and Your constant faithfulness. I know that I am never alone, and that Your promises will never fail.

Love, [Your Name]

Now, read this out loud. Speak and declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Declare that you are covered in God’s truth, His peace, and His strength. This letter is your testimony. It’s a record of your faith, declaring that you will rise, that you will walk in victory, and that you will overcome the confusion.

If you need a few supporting verses to turn to, here are some of my favorites:

Isaiah 54:17 (NLT)
“But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

When you are doubting that you are heard from Heaven. Your cries, your vocalness, your heart’s cries for clarity, peace, and breakthrough are heard by God. Just like Hagar, who was heard in her distress, God hears you. When you speak and declare His Word, Heaven listens.

Genesis 16:11 (NLT)
“And the angel also said, ‘You are now pregnant and will give birth to a son. You are to name him Ishmael (which means ‘God hears’), for the Lord has heard your cry of distress.’”

When you are feeling “not enough,” remember it is not by our power, but by God’s. This is the key to our victory, leaning into His power and Word. We are called to decree and declare the promises of God, for His Word is powerful and His authority is unmatched.

Genesis 41:16 (NLT)
“It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied, “but God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.”

When you need to be reminded that God uses our gifts to show that He is with us and in us. Our God-given gifts are a testament to His presence and power. These gifts are evidence of God’s anointing, and when we step into our calling, we display His greatness through the abilities He has placed within us. We are vessels for His glory, and He will use us to impact the world around us.

Genesis 41:37 (NLT)
“Joseph’s suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his officials. So Pharaoh asked his officials, ‘Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the spirit of God?’”

When you are in distress, know that God hears the cries of His people. He sees our distress, and He is delivering us into His promised land. He makes all things new. Right now, God is making all things new for you. Wherever you are struggling, God is saying, "No more, I am clearing a way." His love is so great that it reaches to the ends of the earth for us, and these are the ones who are called to stand, to decree, and declare His promises. You are called to stand on the unseen and move in His Spirit.

Exodus 3:7-9 (NLT)
“Then the Lord told him, ‘I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.’”

When You Feel Like God Gave You the Wrong Gift of the Spirit:

Exodus 4:10-14 (NLT)
"But Moses pleaded with the Lord, ‘O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.’
Then the Lord asked Moses, ‘Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.’
But Moses again pleaded, ‘Lord, please! Send anyone else.’
Then the Lord became angry with Moses. ‘All right,’ he said, ‘What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well, and look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you."

In this passage, Moses is unsure of his ability to speak, feeling inadequate and nervous about his words. But God reassures him that He will give him what to say. If you’re feeling unsure about your ability to decree and declare, know that God has already equipped you. Even if you feel tongue-tied or unsure of what to say, God will provide the words and the strength. He will make a way for you to speak His truth boldly. And just like with Moses, He will make other ways if you’re not comfortable using your own gifts at first but I love this warning if we do not step boldly into the space God is calling you that God will use someone else. So stand boldly in the gifts of the spirit you have been blessed with.

When you are ready to step fully into this gift of the spirit It starts with understanding who you are in Christ. When you know your identity, when you truly understand that you are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, nothing the enemy throws your way can shake you. You have the power and the authority to speak into the spiritual realm, to command the enemy’s plans to cease, and to walk boldly into the future God has ordained for you.

You are not who you once used to be, and when you step into the gifts God is calling you into, you are seated in heavenly realms:

Ephesians 2:6 (NLT)
“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”

In this season, surrender is key. Surrendering your own power, your own might, and your own understanding. God doesn’t need your control, He needs your trust. He needs you to release the emotional baggage you’ve been carrying, to let go of the fears and doubts, and allow His power to move through you.

 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”

When you surrender, God takes your weakness and makes it His strength. He is waiting for you to release it all to Him your fears, your hurts, your confusion. Surrender it at His feet today, and feel His peace settle in your heart.

Even as you wait in the void, thank Him. This waiting time is not wasted time. God is working in you. He is refining you, teaching you, and preparing you for what’s next. Your breakthrough is coming, but gratitude shifts your perspective.

You can walk through this storm knowing that on the other side, you will emerge stronger, more grounded in His truth, and ready for the opportunities He’s been preparing for you.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

You are not defined by your struggle. You are defined by His grace, His love, and His power working through you. So, hold onto His promises. Don’t let go. The clarity you seek is on the other side of this battle. The confusion will fade as you step into the light of His truth as you begin to decree and declare his truth and promises over your life and the lives of others.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today, acknowledging that I have been under attack. The enemy has tried to block my path, confuse my mind, and steal my peace. But today, I declare that I will no longer be held captive by confusion, fear, or lies. I speak peace over my mind, and I declare that You are my protector, my shield, my stronghold.

Father, I surrender my power to You. I give You my struggles, my confusion, my doubts, and I trust that You will lead me out of this storm. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and I stand firm on Your Word.

Lord, open my eyes to see the spiritual battles I’m facing through Your perspective. Help me to pick up the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, and fight with the authority You have given me. I will not remain silent. I will declare Your truth over my life and my circumstances and over those you have called me to.

I thank You for the peace that passes all understanding. I thank You for the victory that is already mine in Christ Jesus. And I thank You for the clarity that is coming, for the way You are leading me to my next season of breakthrough.

Anoint my words to speak Your truth and declare and decree Your Word boldly over my life and the lives of others.

Grow my gifts of the Spirit through Your love, Spirit, and presence.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
